The Disability Service

The Disability Service ensures that students with disabilities are supported during their time at UCT. They do this by providing resources and information to students, and acting on their behalf, making sure students with disabilities get the services they need.

Some areas of support:

  • Access to lectures and other venues
  • Disabled parking
  • Access to lecture and study material in an alternative format
  • Extra time or other accommodations during exams
  • Accessible residence accommodation
  • Advice

The Service also played a major role in ensuring that students and staff with disabilities can make use of the Jammie Shuttle service. A shuttle will pick students up at their residence and drop them off at their required venues.

They've created the Abigail Mlotchwa Dayhouse for students with disabilities. This is a place for you to relax, have lunch, read and socialise with other students. Lockers are also available so that you don't have to carry your books from class to class.

The Disability Service Computer Lab offers facilities for scanning, typing, braille conversion, and software for blind and partially-sighted students.
