National Benchmark Tests

The National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) focus on academic readiness for university study. Each test requires you to apply prior learning - what you know and are able to do - to materials that reflect expectations for first year students in university programmes. Many South African universities require applicants to write the NBTs. UCT requires all undergraduate applicants normally resident in South Africa to write the NBTs. This includes transferring applicants from other institutions and students returning to UCT after an absence. Find out more about UCT's admission criteria here and visit the NBT website here
