The medical practitioners and nurses at Student Wellness can help you in a number of ways. Many of them won’t be listed here, so it’s best for you to call or visit to find out if they can assist you.
Confidential, clinical consults about your health.
A dispensary where medication is sold at cost price (you can only purchase medication after consultation with a medical practitioner)
HIV tests, including pre- and post-test counseling
Emergency contraception, contraception, STI medication and Pap smears
Applications for deferred exams and extra time due to health reasons
Registered psychologists, who, through a series of one-on-one conversations, help with issues such as adjusting to UCT, stress and anxiety, rape and sexual assault, sexual identity issues, addiction, and many other personal problems you may be facing. There are costs associated with seeing these practitioners, and you have to pay for the medication. These costs can be negotiated. It’s more important for you to get the help you need.

Any student experiencing anxiety and/or depression should call the UCT StudentCareline for immediate help. The line offers 24/7 telephonic counselling, advice, referral facilities and general support to individuals who are facing mental health challenges or are contemplating suicide. The line may also be used by a person concerned about another person who might experiencing distress.
